Continuously address 2 cinematography elements (examples of these) and how they work to address directors purpose

Give audience response = correctly describe the effect for you

Discuss how these reflect societal ideals/ thoughts/ opinions and possibly discuss times when we’ve seen this in history etc.

At this point in the film, the combination of non- diegetic sound and choice of camera shots emphasise the director’s purpose in questioning our society – if technology takes over our lives, will we still get to choose our own destiny? ‘The spyder scene’ begins with a ominous, fast paced piece played by a violin to build suspense as the spyders are released into residents apartments. During which, a tracking shot follows the spyders closely as they investigate the validity of people by intrusively scanning their eyes. In applying these two techniques, Steven Spielberg has purposely created a tense, anxious mood, to depict the idea of a huge advance in technology controlling us instead of us controlling it. During the scene, the audience is made to feel on edge, the idea of of uncertainty becoming a reality for the society Spielberg has established. As Minority Report was made in 2002, our society 16 years on, may be able to point out the moral motifs that were referenced to throughout the film. The society is monopolised by the idea that there is a clear right and wrong, no justice system or room for error of judgement. It can be identified in this scene as John Anderton had just undergone a process in which his eyeballs were surgically changed in order for him not to be recognised by the precogs. Anderton is a ‘good’ person, and had previously been a part of the pre crime association but got predicted to have committed a murder, and is therefore unable to make a future for himself as it is already made for him.

  2. Lucy,

    It’s a shame you didn’t write more…

    Do look to utilise:
    – a societal response – how does the text reflect society?
    – Give more Y moments throughout
    – Be more pointed in the use of the TWO TECHNIQUES TOGETHER to demonstrate the director’s purpose.

Keep this in mind when you actually attack your 3.9.

    🙂
